Maid Cleaning Tips
Leave Your Shoes at the Entry or in the Mudroom - Some studies estimate that as much as 80%-85% of all the dirt and toxins that enter your home come in on the soles of your shoes. Leave your shoes and the unwanted dirt and toxins at the door and your cleaning chores automatically lessen.
Mini-blinds - You will need: A bathtub, bleach, cloth gloves or old washcloths, old towels, Static-Guard or cheap fabric softener sheets.
Fill bathtub with enough hot water to cover blinds and mix in two cups of regular bleach. Remove the blinds from the windows. This is best done by raising the blind, locking it in position, and removing it from its holder. Lay one blind in the bathtub, open to its full extension with slats either up or down (you will be cleaning both sides). Spread a number of large, old towels on the floor to be used to dry clean blinds. Let the blind soak for at least 5 minutes. Wearing an old pair of cotton gloves, start washing each individual slat with your fingers. Using the gloves allows you to clean both sides of the blind at the same time. If you must use a cloth, you will have to wash each side separately. If the water is really dirty, drain the tub. If not, save the water. In either case, lift the blind clear of the water, turn on your shower, and rinse the blind well. Lay it on a towel, and using another towel, blot dry. If you have a large enough space, you could do a number of blinds before moving on to the next step. When the blind is completely dry, spray it lightly with Static Guard, or bunch up some cheap softener sheets and run them across the slats. This will help eliminate static which will prevent the blinds from attracting dust, dirt, hair, and pollen. Re-hang the blind.
Clutter Is Contagious - Take a hard look at the things in your home, and ask yourself whether they are contributing to your life or detracting from it. Some people say you should have nothing in your home that you don’t know you need or believe to be beautiful. We all have different styles of decorating and tolerance for accessories. Just remember that everything that you set on a tabletop or counter must be maintained (dusted, cleaned, etc.) on a regular basis.
Keeping your home clean seems to be one of the world's biggest mysteries! How does one manage such a never-ending task? The key is prevention! Try to put things where they belong right away so as to avoid handling objects twice and doing twice the work. For example, don't pile mail on the table to look at later. Keep an ‘in’ box for bills, etc., and toss the junk mail immediately. When you are about to leave a room, scan the area for things that do not belong in that room.
If you see something that belongs in the direction you are heading toward, pick it up and put it away. If you have a dishwasher, put your dirty dishes directly in the dishwasher. Storing them in the sink adds an unnecessary step to doing dishes and food becomes stuck to the plates! When you run the dishwasher try to empty it right away. While cooking, clean as you go. If you are waiting for something to simmer, clean out the bowl you just used. Always straighten the shower curtain to avoid mold. Keep a set of bathroom cleaners in each bathroom ready to use. Having a set ready in each bathroom lessons the time moving about the house gathering supplies for the job that you would rather not do anyway!
Also, having cleaners handy in each bathroom makes it easy to ‘wipe up’ when unexpected guests arrive. Here comes the hard part... Teach everyone in your household this trick and you will be amazed how much easier it is to clean your home and keep it clean! Remember "Clutter Is Contagious" Once it begins, it takes on a mind of it's own!
SPRING CLEANING TIPS - So now that winter has come and passed we eagerly await the time for the spring cleaning. The time when cleaning seems like there is so much to do with so little time.
But don't worry. Dutch Touch has some cleaning tips for the spring that will make cleaning a lot more easier than you thought and will sanitize everything in the process.
Sprinkle baking sode on clean sheets and an already cleaned carpet once a week and let the sprinkles stay on there for about a day or so. The baking soda will kill any odours and alergens that have settled into your bed-sheets or carpets during the winter. (you can also brush your teeth with baking soda for a nice white smile)
Clean all the windows in your home (or get your maid cleaning service to do it for you) with vinigar. Now we know that seems a little strange but vinegar is natures natural cleaner and it does get the job done. It will remove all the grime that has built up during the winter and doesn't harm the environment at all.
Also, clean that fire-place. Fill a garbage bag with all the ashes that have accumulated over the winter. The reason your fireplace needs cleaning is because day after day the ashes from the fire-place will float into the air, not only polluting your house-hold air quality but you'll find that when you do your summer cleaning you're going to have to clean and dust tons of dust that you would generally not know where it came from. Cleaning out the fire-place is a very important step in spring cleaning that you will appreciated. How? Very patiently get a garbage bag out, sit down at the edge of the fire-place and scopp the ashes into the garbage bag. When you are done make sure to close the bag tightly and dispose of it. Make sure to vacuum when you are done. You'll be happy you did.
If you're not going to employ a maid service to do your cleaning make sure your vacuum has a hepa-filter in it, again to reduce air-born particle density and alergens.
Another great idea is to swifer the walls. All the walls of your home have built up a layer of dust that has settled on the walls and if you don't get to that muck you'll have a hard time cleaning your walls later. This especially if you smoke. During the winter the windows were mostly closed and smoke tar sticks to walls. If this is done year after year it makes cleaning them a difficult task. Swifer clean your walls after the winter and in the fall you'll be glad you did. For some reason walls get much dirtier during the winter.
Use Door Mats - This will remove about 50% of the dirt that comes in your house. You should be taking at least 5 steps on the mats to take off the majority of dirt. This is important if you elect not to leave your shoes at the door or you don’t have an entry or mudroom in which to leave them.
Clean from Left to Right and Top to Bottom - Actually if you are left-handed, you might want to clean from right to left, just be methodical in working your way around a room so you are more efficient and don’t miss anything. By working from top to bottom, you can avoid having streaks or dust settling down on already cleaned surfaces.
Try to use Natural and Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products - They are generally as effective or more so as chemicals and a lot healthier for your family and the environment. There are many quality commercial products available and recipes using common household products online. When you must use chemicals, make sure you wear rubber gloves and work in a well-ventilated area.
Try to Develop a Schedule of Cleaning - If you always clean the bathrooms on Monday and change the sheets on Friday (or whatever), you’ll never let any area get too far behind. Procrastination has a way of building on itself. It also leads to feelings of guilt and self-doubt.

Our Atlanta Maids have found over time that microfiber cloths are the way to go when cleaning blinds. When compared with feather dusters, they perform much better. Feather dusters usually just spread the dust around, as microfiber cloths capture the dust and remove it from the home.
When it comes to cleaning, I have a maid who cleans the house every other day. I work full time in an office and I am always very excited to come home. Well worth it. Also, I get to spend some quality time with my kids instead of nagging and cleaning.
